Servicing Your Boat Trailer at Owens & Sons Marine
We offer 3 packages to service your trailer. If you have any specific concerns with your trailer such as wanting cosmetic items… such as new fenders or a new sticker please let us know when you drop off your trailer.
Platinum service
This is what we recommend to restore your trailer back to like new condition. Many boat owners desire to do this on their trailers so they do not have to worry about items failing. This type of service also reduces the amount of time you will need to spend bringing your trailer in for service and repair.
After this service you will need to check and retighten your lug nuts to 90lbs at 10, 25 & 50 miles.
During a platinum service we do the following
- New Hubs no matter what the condition. (#2 reason why someone is stranded)
- New tires if they are over 2 years old and or show any wear (#1 side of the road issue)
- New Axles if they show any signs of rust or wear
- New wood and carpeted bunks if they show any sign of wear
- If boat is on the trailer and desired tow vehicle we will examine and adjust trailer and boat position for ideal weight distribution.
- Safety check lights replace any that are out and or rewired if it appears to be substantially rusted.
- All brakes replaced if they show any signs of rust or wear
- Check winch and jack to make sure they are working and not rusted. Replace if worn or rusted
Gold Service
This service is ideal for someone that is okay with bringing back in the trailer and or dealing with minor issues that might occur. For instance a blown tire or a hub issue is the ultimate reason a trailer leaves someone stranded.
After this service you will need to check and retighten your lug nuts to 90lbs at 10, 25 & 50 miles.
- New Hubs no matter what the condition. (#2 reason why someone is stranded)
- New tires if they are over 2 years old and or show any wear (#1 side of the road issue)
- New Axles if they appear to have less than 30% remaining life
- Brakes checked to see if working and replaced as needed.
- Safety check lights replace any that are out.
- Customer must ask for new carpeting and or wood
- Check winch and jack to make sure working. Replace if broke or worn.
Silver Service
This service is for someone that is budget conscious and okay with having to bring the trailer back in for items and or working on the trailer on the side of the road.
After this service you will need to check and retighten your lug nuts to 90lbs at 10, 25 & 50 miles (FOR EVERY WHEEL that a TIRE AND OR HUB THAT WAS REPLACED).
- Check all hubs to see if they are spinning free and not making bearing noise, replace only ones that are showing damage
- Grease all hubs
- Check tires and inflate to recommended psi.. replace only tires that are older than 5 years and or are worn beyond wear mark.
- safety check lights
- safety check brakes, make sure working at inspection
- Check winch and jack to make sure working. Replace if broke.
